Trauma Focused Therapy

Trauma-focused therapy with children is designed to help them process and heal from traumatic experiences in a safe, supportive environment. The therapy involves helping children understand and express their emotions, thoughts, and reactions related to the trauma. Techniques like play therapy, art, storytelling, and movement allow children to express feelings they may not have the words for. The therapist works to build trust, normalize the child’s experience, and teach coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety. Trauma-focused therapy helps children regain a sense of safety, rebuild self-esteem, and develop healthy ways to cope with the impact of their trauma.

FAQs about Play Therapy Service

Play therapy is a powerful tool for helping children express emotions, process experiences, and develop coping skills in a play therapy child friendly setting. Each session begins and ends with the adult (usually a parent or caregiver), providing an opportunity to connect, discuss progress, and reinforce the goals of therapy. It’s important for parents to be actively involved in the process, as they help support and reinforce the skills their child learns during sessions. Practical skills are shared with parents so they can guide their child in practicing those techniques at home, further strengthening the therapeutic work and fostering long-term emotional growth.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR for children is a therapeutic approach designed to help them process and heal from trauma, anxiety, or distressing experiences. Through a combination of guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, children are able to reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and helping them form healthier beliefs about themselves and their experiences. EMDR helps children build resilience by allowing them to reframe negative emotions and gain a sense of control. The therapist creates a safe and supportive environment, tailoring the approach to the child’s developmental level, ensuring effective healing and emotional growth.
